What the bites look like
Bed bug bites are often small, red and itchy, and commonly appear in lines or clusters on skin exposed while sleeping. Reactions vary, and some people don't react at all, so bites alone aren't proof.
Check for other signs
Look along mattress seams, the box spring, headboard and nearby furniture for small dark spots, tiny pale eggs, shed skins or live bugs.
What not to do
Avoid moving furniture or bedding to other rooms, which can spread bed bugs, and be cautious with foggers, which rarely reach their hiding spots.
Next step
Book a professional inspection to confirm whether it's bed bugs and how far they've spread. Treatment is usually scheduled as a separate visit with preparation instructions.
